Final Presentation..

Well my presentation went quite badly in my mind. I struggled with what I wanted to say and realised that it was probably the fact I stayed up over 48 hours trying to get my work done over the weekend. I managed to finish what I needed to finish however when it came to the morning of my presentation I had written everything I had wanted to say, I just hadn’t had time to practice speaking in front of people and explaining my ideas behind the work I had done. Charles and Kim were really nice and were easy to talk to when it came to my presentation, as they were quite critical and gave good ideas as to what i should have done and what could have been improved.

I do admit I was extremely nervous getting up to present, as anyone would be. I feel that with practice I would have been able to present the work I had done more effectively and wouldn’t have had to stop in my presentation to try and remember what I desperately wanted to say.

Overall I thought I could have done a better job, but at least its over now and I can look forward to what we get to do in Semester Two. :)

Below is my A1 Poster and my Supportive Material for the Semester One Projects.

Reverse Cinema: The Main Project

Well last Thursday we were given our last assignment of the Semester and I was looking forward to it quite a lot. I went in on the Tuesday where we received our first exercise that was leading up towards the main project. I admit I loved the exercise that we had to do. Using clips and audio which were already given to us to create an exact 30 second clip was quite exciting for me as I kind of knew how to do it.

On the Thursday we all received the main brief and got straight to it. We all stayed in the groups that we had for the Fast Backwards exercise. Our genre is “Coming of Age Drama” which is quite a challenging genre and also quite demanding. We were to produce, shoot and edit our genre video from the re-edit of the Wizard of Oz. I was quite looking forward to working with the group as I hadn’t worked with any of them except Sonny. The group consisted of myself, Sonny, Grant, Robin and Jack.

During the first few days we decided to come into the studio and begin the brainstorming, planning and development stages of the project, coming up with the storyboard and script were quite difficult to get done as a lot of time was needed to come up with an ideal storyboard and script that matched with our genre. As we only had 48 hours to film our movie, we needed to get straight onto the script and storyboard and make sure we were all happy with it before we went off and brought costumes and began getting ready to shoot the movie.

We then spent the next two days shooting and editing our film to make sure we met the 4pm deadline. I liked the day we spent at Grants House shooting all our scenes. It was an exciting day as I had never gone out and shot a movie and created a script and storyboard for. I liked how Sonny and Grant were like the directors telling us exactly what were needed from us to make the scene more effective. We all worked well on the film.

As we were editing our film we came across an issue, which was our footage. The image quality was extremely bad for what we wanted. We also found that the storyline was lost as we watched the movie. Hopefully we will be able to make changes and maybe fix up what we have done during study week to make sure our movie is more effective in trying to communicate our ideas.

Reverse Cinema Excercise 1

Well on Tuesday we were given a new project, to create a 30 second movie and to use footage and audio, which we were given. I compiled a bunch of videos and audio tracks that I thought would go well together and came across a simple yet effective storyline. A day at the beach, which resulted in a shark attack came to mind. So I began editing the video clips and searching for audio tracks which would go well with the video. Below is a screen shot of what i was editing.

I quite enjoyed doing this exercise as it got me familiar with Adobe Premiere as I had never used it before. I have used iMovie before and I found that Adobe Premiere was more complex but it didn’t take me long to notice that it was quite similar.

Claymation

Well I Have now managed to create my claymation. My claymation involves my character moving to a swimming pool and going for a swim. It also shows my character moving to dry themselves off with a towel. I quite enjoyed doing this part of the project as I had a clear image in my head as to what I wanted to do.

Flip Book

I have created my flipbook which contains 24 different images.

PartyBot.. Project 1

On Friday 12th March 2010 we were given a new project to complete. We needed to:
- Create a drawing visualisation machine and produce 3 drawings from it.

We (Christine, Sonny, Nick, Charlotte A, Theresa, Ricki, Daniel and I) all began discussing our ideas and brainstorming on Friday afternoon and came up with 1 main idea which we all seemed to like.

Monday 15th March 2010:
We began developing and constructing the idea further until we came up with a final solution. We decided upon having a robot controlling a remote controlled car which was controlled by sound, and having a robot on top of the remote control car which controlled the different medias that would create the drawings, which would be controlled by flashing light. We then began constructing. As we constructed the idea of having a theme came up where we decided to have a "party" theme, which then resulted in the robot having a name "The PartyBot".

Tuesday 16th March 2010:

The Day began with everyone meeting at Mag Warehouse at St Johns to begin our project of creating a drawing visualisation machine that would create a peice of art. During the day we ran into several problems such as the canvas being a black colour, which meant having to change the vivid marker to a paint tube to allow the media to be seen on the canvas. We also had problems with the robot on the remote controlled car, as it would not squeeze the paint tubes. We had to thin the paint down with water in order to get the paint out of the tube while the remote control car was in action. We also decided to have 1 canvas and have 3 layers on it to show the relationship between the different songs.

Overall I thought this project was good, I enjoyed working with my team. I enjoyed the day out getting our drawing machines to create art. I wouldnt be in any mad rush to create a robot in future though because I haven't played with lego as a kid, i didnt really know what I was doing, and found that creating a stand for our remote control car took alot longer than what i expected it to..

The First Week..

The first week of the BCT program went incredibly quick.
We began the year with a series of three one-day excercises. They were Social Mapping (Tuesday), Data Visualisation (Wednesday) and Situation Shuffle (Thursday).

On Tuesday we were all told to get into groups of 12, and were then asked a series of personal questions in which we were to answer on a post it note and stick up on the wall near our names which were also on post it notes on the wall. We then linked answers with other people to see the similarities we each had with other people.

We then presented our data on a program called Gephi which I found quite challenging to use as I had never used it before, however after asking James a few questions it all began making sense.

On Wednesday we were then given a new task, Data Visualisation. We were to get into groups again this time of 3-4 people. Sonny, Versha and I were to come up with data to collect. So we came up with counting the number of smokers on Queen Street at 12.45pm, 1.45pm and 2.45pm. We were then to present this data visually to present to class on Thursday morning.
On Thursday we were given a new task, Situation Shuffle which I enjoyed. We were to get into groups of four and follow a set of instructions that we were given. There were four roles.

1 - Actuator
2 - Controller
3 - Tracker
4 - Sensor
This activity was challenging as several of the same cards came after the other such as ROTATE 180 degrees. As this card occured twice we were led into a Hawkins construction wall which made the experience a little more challenging as we could not move foward. We then presented a slideshow of our journey on Friday morning to the class.

Overall I thought the week was great. I didnt get what we were doing at first, however its slowly becoming clearer in my head.
